Field Hockey Shuts Out Oswego Lakers

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Field Hockey defeated the Oswego Lakers in a non-conference game at home on Wednesday evening.

The Golden Flyers are now 6-6 overall and 4-2 in conference play.

The Golden Flyers created some great scoring opportunities in the first quarter with six penalty corners and four shots, but they were not able to convert. The first quarter remained silent scoring wise.

At the 27-minute mark, Audra Mieczkowski weaved past defenders to score a goal, unassisted, putting the Golden Flyers in the lead 1-0, heading into the second half.

With about four minutes left in the third quarter, Michaela Cushman hurdled over the Lakers' goalie, who was rushing out to try to get a clear, and put the ball in scoring position so that Mieczkowski could tap it in. The score remained 2-0 for the remainder of the game in favor of Nazareth.

Nazareth's defense held Oswego to only one shot during the game, and the Golden Flyers had 15 penalty corners to the Lakers' four.

The Golden Flyers will take the field again on Saturday, October 19th, for a conference game at 12 p.m. against Brockport. This game will be a "Flowers for 14 Cancer Awareness Game", where a fundraiser will be held in the name of Mya Maloof, a Nazareth field hockey player (class of '21) who lost her battle to cancer in 2023. All proceeds will go directly to the Wilmot Cancer Institute. A link to donate is listed below.
