ROCHESTER, NY – An early run capped by a fast break layup by sophomore Kiara Anglin gave the Nazareth University Women's Basketball team a double-digit lead and the Golden Flyers went to post an 81-45 victory over Utica University Tuesday night in an Empire 8 game at Kidera Gymnasium.
The win for Nazareth (13-1 overall, 5-0 Empire 8) is the 12th consecutive victory which ties the school record with streaks in 1988-89 and again in 1989-90. Both the teams that had the previous streaks advanced to the NCAA Tournament.
On Tuesday, Anglin was one of the four players to score in double-digits as she finished with 12 points and completed a double-double with a career-high 15 rebounds.
Freshman Madalyn Kelly and sophomore Molly Benetti led the Golden Flyers with 14 points each and sophomore Katie MacLachlan added 11 points. Freshmen Sarina McDowell and Morgan Carabella each scored eight points off the bench.
Nazareth led 20-10 after one quarter and extended the lead to 39-22 at halftime. In the second half, the defense limited Utica (4-8, 1-2 Empire 8) to just nine points with a 21-9 advantage in the period to build a lead of 29 points at 60-31 heading into the final period.
Nazareth added another 21 points in the final 10 minutes for the 81-45 final score.
Nazareth is off until next Tuesday with a road game at Keuka.
