ELMIRA, NY – Sophomore Molly Benetti hit a trio of early baskets to start the second quarter and sparked a 14-2 run to start the period for the Nazareth University Women's Basketball team as the Golden Flyers posted an 80-55 win Friday night to extend its win streak to 10 games.
Benetti scored six of her game-high 20 points in the second period as Nazareth (11-1 overall, 3-0 Empire 8) maintained the double-digit lead for the remainder of the game.
The sophomore was one of three players to reach double-digit scoring as fellow sophomore Kiara Anglin added 17 points and graduate student Olivia Dobrovosky chipped in 13 points and a team-high nine rebounds. Anglin had seven rebounds and Benetti added eight for the Golden Flyers.
Sophomore Katie MacLachlan and freshman Sarina McDowell each scored eight points in the win.
Nazareth shot 52 percent (32-for-62) from the field and connected on 12-of-15 (80%) free throws.
The win over Elmira extended the win streak over the Soaring Eagles to 10 games dating back to 20-17-18. Nazareth has won 17 of the last 18 games in the series.
The Golden Flyers continue the first Empire 8 road trip of the semester with a game at Alfred Saturday with a tip scheduled for 2 p.m.
