John Carroll Rallies to Down Women’s Volleyball in Home Opener

ROCHESTER, NY – After falling in the opening set, junior Tessa Grover helped rally the Nazareth University Women's Volleyball team with a strong finish to a 29-27 win in the second set but visiting John Carroll rallied to win the next two sets for a 3-1 victory Friday night in Kidera Gym.

Grover was all over the stats sheet as she recorded a triple-double with 20 kills, 20 assists and 17 digs. She had an impressive triple-double after the second set with 13 kills, 10 assists and 11 digs.

Late in the second set, junior Ruth Jackson and sophomore Leah Fusilli combined for a block to even the score at 25-25 and Fusilli followed with a kill from a Grover assist to give Nazareth (1-3) a one-point edge.

John Carroll (4-2) rallied for the next two points to regain the lead before Fusilli evened the score against 27-27 with another kill. The Blue Streaks committed an attack error with a long hit before Grover wrapped up the set with a kill to give Nazareth the 29-27 win.

Jackson finished with eight kills and sophomore Rylie Loomis had seven kills and eight digs. Junior Ella Kules led the team with 28 assists and fellow junior Zoe Tylipakis led the defensive effort with 22 digs.

Nazareth continues action at home with matches against Heidelberg (at noon) and Geneseo (at 6 p.m.) Saturday in Kidera Gym.
