Late Goal Gives Women’s Soccer a Road Conference Win

HOUGHTON, NY – The freshman combination of Shannon Sgombick and Camryn Schiavitti completed a paly that resulted in a late goal for the Nazareth University Women's Soccer team as the Golden Flyers recorded an Empire 8 road win with a 1-0 victory at Houghton.

Nazareth (2-3-3 overall, 1-0-1 Empire 8) controlled the play for nearly the entire game with a 19-9 advantage in shots, including a 12-4 lead in the first half and an 11-3 edge in shots on goal but it was not until late in the second half when the Golden Flyers finally found the back of the net for the 1-0 lead.

For the freshmen, it was the first career goal and first career assist for the tandem.

Junior goalie Annika Monfort made three saves for Nazareth.

Nazareth continues conference play Saturday at home against Keuka with a 1 p.m. game at Golden Flyer Stadium.
