POTSDAM, NY – Junior Annika Monfort made six saves but a pair of first half goals by Clarkson University led to a 3-0 road loss for the Nazareth University Women's Soccer team Saturday afternoon on Hantz Field at Clarkson.
Clarkson (2-0-0) scored first 10 minutes into the game with a well-placed shot that landed in the top corner over the outstretched arms of Monfort.
Nineteen minutes later, the Golden Knights doubled the score as the Clarkson forward won a foot race to a loose ball and tapped a shot to the corner of the goal for a 2-0 lead.
Nazareth (0-0-1) had more scoring chances in the second half but a late hand ball in the box resulted in a penalty kick and goal for a 3-0 Clarkson lead.
Monfort recorded six saves on the day.
Nazaret returns home and will play its home opener at 4 p.m. Friday against Penn State Behrend in Golden Flyer Stadium.
