Nazareth Falls to Wittenberg in the Home and Season Opener

ROCHESTER, NY – Sophomore Madison Chodkowski scored her first career goal as she knocked in a shot from the corner of the cage after a penalty corner for the Nazareth University Field Hockey team but the Golden Flyers surrendered five second half goals and fell 6-1 to Wittenberg in the season opener Friday night.

After the penalty corner ball came out to the top of the circle, junior Lydia Coombs redirected a pass toward the outside edge of the cage where Chodkowski was positioned in a perfect position to knock the ball past the Wittenberg (1-0) goalie.

The goal made it a 4-1 game before Wittenberg scored two more late goals for the final score.

The score was just 1-0 after the first half of play but Wittenberg scored three times in the third quarter to take a 4-0 lead. Chodkowski scored five minutes into the final period to narrow the lead but the Tigers added two late goals including one in the final minute for the final score.

Nazareth used four goalies that combined for 16 saves including sophomore Madilyn Satter who played 37 minutes and finished with 12 saves.

The Golden Flyers will face The College of Wooster at Noon Saturday.
