ALFRED, NY – The Nazareth men's lacrosse team had its five-game win streak snapped on Friday night as the Golden Flyers fell in a close 13-11 battle with Alfred University. It was the Golden Flyers first loss to Alfred since 2018. Nazareth holds a 30-6 overall series record with the Saxons.
With the loss, Nazareth drops to 6-7 overall and 2-1 in conference play, while the Saxons move to 7-3 and 3-0 in Empire 8 play.
The Golden Flyers had three players record four points on the day in
Quinn McKercher (4 goals),
Jack McOsker (3G, 1A), and
Matthew Farrington (1G, 3A).
Nazareth trailed 7-4 at the half.
After each team added a pair of goals in the third, Nazareth trailed 9-6 before the visitors rattled off the next four goals to take the lead.
Quinn McKercher netted all four goals on the run over a four-minute span to give the Golden Flyers a 10-9 lead with 3:46 remaining in third. McKercher leads Nazareth with 42 points on the season on 29 goals and 13 assists.
The Saxons added a goal in the third to bring the score to 10-10 heading into the final frame.
Alfred scored the next two goals before Farrington scored his lone goal of the game with 8:53 left to draw within 12-11.
Only one other goal was scored in the contest with the Saxons finding the net with 7:16 to play.
Jakob Denkenberger finished 11-20 from the faceoff circle.
Sean O'Brian led the way with four ground balls.
Eric Almquist suffered the defeat in net, making eight saves.
The Golden Flyers travel to Medaille University on Wednesday for a 4 p.m. contest.
