Fisher Hands Women's Lax First Conference Loss

ROCHESTER, NY – 23-rd ranked St. John Fisher built a seven-goal lead after the first quarter and handed Nazareth its first conference loss of the season on Saturday, 17-7, at NLPA Field. Emma States added two goals and an assist, while Kate Metzler added two goals. States now has 51 points on 41 goals and 10 assists.
 
Nazareth had its five-game win streak snapped and is now 7-6 overall and 4-1 in Empire 8 play. Fisher moves to 9-2 and 3-0 in conference action.
 
Fisher scored the first three goals of the game before Metzler found the net for Nazareth from Maren Wallace with 8:14 left in the opening quarter. The Cardinals scored the final four goals of the quarter to lead 8-1.
 
The draw control proved to be a huge factor all day, with Fisher holding a 20-8 advantage in the game.
 
The Golden Flyers were able to get back into the contest with a strong second, scoring three times and holding Fisher off the board.  Metzler scored her second of the game just over four minutes in, followed by goals from Reva Mussi and Annie Rubel.
 
It was 8-4 at the half.
 
The Cardinals came out of the half buzzing, scoring the first four goals to build a 12-4 lead. States scored her first of the day for Nazareth's first goal of the half with just over six minutes remaining.
 
After trailing 14-5 heading into the fourth, Nazareth cut the lead to 14-7 with States second of the day, followed by Maren Wallace on the free position.
 
The Golden Flyers did not score the rest of the contest and Fisher added three more goals to earn the 17-7 victory.
 
Allie Klestinec made seven saves in the losing effort and is now 3-2 on the season.
 
Nazareth returns to action on Saturday, hosting Hartwick at 1 p.m.
