Ithaca Holds Off Men's Lacrosse, 14-9

ROCHESTER, NY – Visiting Ithaca built a five-goal lead after one quarter and held on for a 14-9 victory over Nazareth on Wednesday at NLPA field. Quinn McKercher had a season-high seven points on four goals and three helpers.
 
Nazareth has now dropped its last four games and sits at 1-4 on the season after opening the year with a win over Springfield. Ithaca remains unbeaten at 3-0.
 
The Golden Flyers were in a hole early, as the Bombers scored the first six goals of the game before Jack McOsker converted a man-up opportunity.
 
Jake Schroll notched his first-career goal and the score was 7-2 after a quarter of play.
 
After nine goals were scored in the opening frame, only four were scored in the second, two from each team to make it 9-4 at half.
 
The Golden Flyers came out strong from the break, as Louis Cogliandro scored on the man-up and added an even strength goal midway through, cutting the Bombers lead to 9-6.
 
After a pair of goals from the Bombers, McKercher buried his third of the day to make it a four-goal game, 11-7, heading into the final quarter.
 
McKercher tallied his fourth of the day and shortly after assisted his brother, Braeden McKercher, which made it 12-9.  Quinn McKercher leads Nazareth with 15 points on 11 goals and four assists on the season.
 
Ithaca scored the last two goals of the game to close out the victory.
 
Eric Almquist dropped to 1-4 on the season with the loss after making 16 saves.
 
Ben Chaddock and Sean O'Brian each had four ground balls in the loss.
 
Nazareth hits the road on Saturday, traveling to St. Lawrence for a 1 p.m. contest.
