Clarkson Hands Men's Lax a 12-7 Loss

ROCHESTER, NY – The Nazareth men's lacrosse squad could not overcome a strong defensive effort from visiting Clarkson on Sunday, as the Golden Flyers fell 12-7 at NLPA field.  Senior Jack McOsker added two goals and led the Golden Flyers with five ground balls in the losing effort.
 
The Golden Flyers have now dropped three straight and sit at 1-3 on the season. Clarkson, a veteran-laden squad, improves to 2-0 with the win.
 
The visitors opened up a 7-3 lead at halftime Nazareth was unable to pull any closer than four goals the rest of the way.
 
McOsker scored the first goal of the game, before the Golden Knights scored the next five, spilling over into the second quarter.
 
With the score 5-1, William O'Neill buried Nazareth's only man-up of the half. The Golden Flyers got opportunities on the man-up in the opening 30 minutes, but only managed to go 1-5 with a strong effort from the Clarkson defense. Nazareth finished the half with a 26-17 edge in shots and 43-47 margin for the game.
 
Braeden McKercher followed up O'Neill's goal to make it 5-3 before Clarkson ended with the next two goals of the half to make it 7-23.
 
Trailing 10-4 in the third quarter, Nazareth rattled off two-straight, Quinn McKercher's second of the day, followed by Louis Cogliandro to make it 10-6 with just over two minutes to play. Carkson got an important goal before the end of the quarter to bring a five-goal advantage, 11-6, into the final quarter.
 
On two goals were scored in the fourth, one from each team.
 
Eric Almquist made 15 saves in net. He has made at least 15 saves in each of his four starts this season.
 
Nazareth hosts Ithaca at 4 p.m. on Wednesday.
