THOUSAND OAKS, CA – The 13
th-ranked men's volleyball team made completed its unbeaten spring break trip on Monday, defeating Cal Lutheran in four sets, 27-25, 25-23, 22-25, 25-22.
Trent Caviness kept his hot streak alive, dishing out 42 assists and collecting 12 digs, while
Owen Wickens was credited with 24 kills on a .321 attack percentage and 11 digs.
Nazareth is now 20-5 on the season, while Cal Lutheran drops to 18-9. The Golden Flyers have now hit the 20-win mark for the first time since 2017.
The visitors trailed 22-21 in the opening set and broke open a 25-25 tie with kills from
Alex Bertino and Wickens to close out the set, 27-25. It was the Golden Flyers worst hitting set at .171.
In the second, the Golden Flyers trailed late once again at 20-19 before recording four-straight points on kills from Wickens and
Nate Allen, bookended by a block assist from Allen and
Colin Donahue. Wickens ended the set with a kill.
Despite having its best hitting set at .355, the Golden Flyers were bettered in the third by Cal Lutheran's .441 attack percentage.
The Golden Flyers trailed 18-14 in the final set before rallying, including recording four consecutive points when trailing 21-20. That allowed the 13-ranked Flyers to take a 24-21 lead and Bertino put down his seventh and final kill to end the match.
Seth Terzo was good for 12 digs while Allen and Donahue each had six kills apiece. Donahue also had four blocks.
Nazareth closes out the regular season on Friday, March 31 hosting St. John Fisher at 7 p.m.
