Ingrid Holstad scored her fourth goal in four games but it was not enough as 14
th-ranked Nazareth fell to 11
th-ranked Elmira 2-1 at the East-West Hockey Classic hosted at Norwich University on Saturday night. The Golden Flyers will play in the consolation match against #4 Plattsburgh on Sunday at 1 p.m. Plattsburgh fell 2-1 in overtime to #12 Norwich in the opening game.
Nazareth falls to 5-3-1 with the loss, while Elmira moves to 8-2.
After a scoreless first, Elmira scored the first goal of the game with just over 14 minutes to play in the second on a wraparound goal.
Elmira had five power play opportunities in the game but the Golden Flyers were able to stand tall all on all of them.
The Soaring Eagles quickly found a goal in the third period, :40 seconds in, to push their lead to 2-0.
Nazareth's lone goal of the game came on the power play as
Julia Holmes ripped a shot from the point that was deflected by Holstad through the five-hole just passed the midway point. It was a nice homecoming for Holstad who played four years at Norwich, scoring 25 goals and adding 32 assists during her tenure
The Golden Flyers were unable to find the equalizer after Holstad's goal.
McKinley Hoff made 28 saves in net for Nazareth.
Elmira finished with a 30-17 edge in shots.
