Box Score PETERSBURG, FL – The Nazareth men's basketball squad could not overcome a 12-point halftime hole, falling 85-76 to Dickinson College Wednesday in its final contest in Florida.
Logan Blankenberg scored 17 of his team-high 20 points in the second half, finishing 7-for-10 from the floor and grabbing six boards.
The Golden Flyers drop to 4-5 overall with the loss, while Dickinson improves to 4-6.
Nazareth got behind 15-3 at the 15:12 mark of the opening half and tried to claw its way back.
The Purple and Gold came within four points on two separate occasions in the half, including
Jordan Haggard converting a traditional 3-point play with 8:07 to play, making it 25-21. He was the second leading scorer for Nazareth with 15 points on 4-for-7.
The Red Devils closed the half on a 20-12 run to take a 45-33 margin into halftime.
It was a strong start for Nazareth as back-to-back triples from
Jaylen Savage and Haggard trimmed the lead to 45-39.
After cutting the lead down to just three points with 15:55 to play, Dickinson was able to recapture a double-digit margin that Nazareth had to fight out of once again.
With the lead at 13 near the midway point, Nazareth came all the way back to within 72-69 following a Blankenberg turnover with 4:01 on the clock.
That is as close as Nazareth would come as the Red Devils finished strong down the stretch.
Solomon McFarlane dropped 13 points, while Savage notched 12 points, three rebounds, and two assists.
Luke Insley led the way with five assists to go along with nine points.
Nazareth will next be in action on December 30, hosting Hartford at 7 p.m.
