POTSDAM, NY – Junior Tessa Grover recorded 16 kills and fellow junior Zoe Tylipakis added 23 digs but the Nazareth University Women's Volleyball team dropped a pair of 3-0 decisions Saturday in a tri-match with SUNY Cortland and Clarkson University hosted by the Golden Knights.
Nazareth (9-17 overall) dropped a 3-0 decision to Cortland (23-3) by set scores of 25-18, 25-14 and 25-17. The Red Dragons are in the Also Receiving Votes section of the most recent national poll.
The Golden Flyers also fell to host Clarkson (13-11) in three sets by scores of 25-17, 25-20 and 25-10.
In the Cortland match, Grover and sophomore Leah Fusilli each had six kills, Tylipakis had 10 digs and junior Ella Kules handed out seven assists and nine digs. Grover also contributed five assists, six blocks and six digs.
Against Clarkson, Grover had 10 kills, seven assists and nine digs while Tylipakis added 13 digs to her weekend total. Sophomore Rylie Loomis added four kills and six digs and Kules led team with nine assists.
The matches marked the end of the regular season for Nazareth as the Golden Flyers open the Empire 8 Tournament Tuesday at home against Alfred. Nazareth is the No. 4 seed and the Saxons are seeded No. 5 in the six-team tournament field.
