MacLachlan Leads Nazareth to Mark’s Pizzeria Tournament Win

ROCHESTER, NY – Sophomore Katie MacLachlan led five players into double figures scoring for the Nazareth University Women's Basketball team as the Golden Flyers downed RIT 75-67 on the second day of competition at the annual Mark's Pizzeria Crosstown Shootout Tournament at Nazareth.

MacLachlan was named to the All-Tournament team and led Nazareth (2-1) with 16 points. Three other starters also scored in double figures as sophomore Kiara Anglin scored 14, sophomore Molly Benetti added 13 and graduate student Olivia Dobrovosky added 11. Freshman Sarina McDowell scored 10 points off the bench for the Golden Flyers.

Nazareth scored 24 points in the opening quarter to take a 24-16 lead and the Golden Flyers led by six points at 39-33 at the halftime break. Nazareth connected on 62.5% of its shots in the opening quarter and more than 50% in the first half.

The Golden Flyers took a seven-point lead in the third quarter on a pair of free throws by McDowell but RIT (0-2) used a 7-0 run to knot the game at 52-52 with 2:42 remaining in the third quarter.

The Tigers jumped ahead early in the fourth quarter before Benetti and Anglin combined for a 6-0 run to regain the lead.

A McDowell basket in close with 1:29 remaining tied the game at 67-67 but MacLachlan scored six of the final seven points of the game to seal the victory.

Nazareth will play at Morrisville next Saturday before starting Empire 8 play December 1.
