Women’s Soccer Rallies to a 1-1 Tie with RIT

ROCHESTER, NY – Junior McKenna Miller finished off a corner kick for her first goal of the season and fellow junior Annika Monfort turned away 10 shots to lead the Nazareth University Women's Soccer team to a 1-1 tie with RIT Tuesday afternoon in a non-conference game at Golden Flyer Stadium.

RIT (4-4-2 overall) took an early lead with a goal in the first two minutes of the game. A pass into the box and a shot into the lower corner gave the Tigers the lead.

The score remained 1-0 for the remainder of the first half but early in the second half, Nazareth (3-3-4) took advantage of a corner kick to knot the score at 1-1. Sophomore Lauren Obey took the kick and sent a ball into the box. The ball deflected off the leg of freshman Shannon Sgombick and to the foot of Miller.

Miller fired a quick shot over the outstretched hands of the RIT goalie and off the cross bar before dropping into the goal for the tying goal.

Both teams had scoring chances in the closing minutes, but Monfort was strong in goal with five saves in the second half as she finished with double-digit saves for the third time this year.

Nazareth returns to Empire 8 action Saturday at Elmira before returning home next Wednesday to face St. John Fisher.
