ROCHESTER, NY – The Nazareth field hockey team faced a strong Houghton squad on Tuesday night at NLPA field, falling by a score of 7-0. Freshman goalie
Morgan Russo came into the contest near the midway point of the first quarter and made 14 saves in the game. The 52:41 in net was her longest bout in net all season.
Nazareth is now 0-9 overall and 0-3 in Empire 8 play, while Houghton is 9-1 and 4-0, respectively.
The Highlanders came into the contest unbeaten and scoring 4.89 goals per game. It didn't take long for Houghton to crack the Golden Flyers defense as they scored two goals in the first 1:55 of the game.
Mackenzie Halliday started the game in net, allowing two goals in 7:19 of action before being replaced by Russo.
Houghton added one more to its lead after one quarter of play to make it 3-0.
It was 5-0 at the half.
The Golden Flyers buckled down defensively in the third quarter, only allowing one goal.
Nazareth's lone shot came in the fourth quarter from
Hannah Janes.
Nazareth returns to action on Saturday, traveling to Elmira for a 1 p.m. contest. The game will take place in Pine Valley, NY at Murray Athletic Center. Elmira is currently 1-4 overall and 0-2 in Empire 8 play.
