ROCHESTER, NY – The Nazareth women's volleyball team fell to second place Keuka on Friday night at Kidera Gymnasium, 17-25, 25-22, 23-25, 19-25.
Tessa Grover notched her eighth triple double of the season with 14 kills (.294), 17 assists, and 13 digs in the loss. She also had four service aces.
Nazareth (8-15 overall, 4-3 in Empire 8), will close out the regular season on Saturday hosting Utica University (14-11 overall, 3-4 Empire 8) at 1 p.m. on Senior Day. At 4-3, Naz is currently the fifth seed for the upcoming Empire 8 Championships and Utica, at 3-4, is the six seed. With a win on Saturday, Nazareth would have a chance to move up its seeding to as high as the No. 3 seed.
The Golden Flyers built a big hole in the opening set, falling behind 14-5. After cleaning up some serve receive errors (4), Nazareth was able to claw within 18-14 following four-straight points. Grover had a service ace to make it 18-14. That is as close in the set the Golden Flyers would come, falling 25-17.
After hitting just above the .100 in the opening set, Nazareth rebounded to hit .303 – 15 kills on 33 attempts with five errors. Nazareth led by as many as five in the set.
Ruth Jackson was able to the close out the set with a kill.
In the third Nazareth battled back from 16-11 to even the score at 16 apiece. Nazareth could not overcome Keuka in the set who outhit the Golden Flyers .316 to .136.
The Golden Flyers came up empty in the fourth set falling 25-19.
Leah Fusilli had 11 kills and 13 digs.
Ella Kules led the way with 22 assists.
