ELMIRA, NY – Visiting Nazareth built a 16-point lead after three quarters, going on to defeat Elmira College 77-69 on Saturday for its ninth win in conference play. Graduate Student
Jadyn Abrams had an efficient 23 points on 10-15 from the field while also pulling down five rebounds to lead the way.
The Golden Flyers move to 13-5 overall and 9-2 in Empire 8 play. Elmira drops to 10-7 overall and 6-5 in conference play.
After leading by as many as 18 to start the fourth quarter, Elmira was able to claw to within five points at 74-69 with 1:11 left on the clock. The Golden Flyers, however, were able to add a few free throws down the stretch to close out the game.
Trailing 19-18 in the first quarter, Nazareth scored the final 11 points to take a 10-point lead into the second.
It was an 11-point lead for the Golden Flyers at the half, 47-36.
Caley Cornwell had a season-high 16 points on 5-for-9 from the field, including 3-for5 from range.
Kim Davis and
Brielle Reidinger each poured in 10 points and combined for 17 rebounds.
Katie MacLachlan chipped in eight points and five rebounds, while
Chelsea Woodsum added six points.
Nazareth returns to action on Tuesday, traveling to Utica for a 5:30 p.m. contest.
