ALFRED STATION, NY – Freshman Jaylen Savage and senior Logan Blankenberg each scored 17 points and the Nazareth Men's Basketball team connected on 62 percent of its shots in the second half to pull away from Alfred for a 79-69 win in Empire 8 play Friday night on the road.
Savage had 12 of his 17 points in the first half as Nazareth (14-3 overall, 8-2 E8) built a solid 13-point advantage at 38-25. Blankenberg scored nine in the second half and senior Jordan Haggard added seven of his 11 points to maintain the lead for the Golden Flyers.
Nazareth finished 31-for-56 (55.4%) from the field for the game after hitting 15-of-24 (62.5%) of its shots in the second half. The Golden Flyers attempted just five 3-point shots in the game. Alfred (13-5, 8-3 E8) was limited to just 34.3% (23-for-67) from the field and connected on only 11-of-30 shots from 3-point range with only 18 of the 69 points coming in the paint.
Blankenberg, Savage and Haggard were the only double-digit scorers for Nazareth while graduate student Zach Stenglein added nine points and 12 rebounds and fellow graduate student Jonathan Park chipped in eight points and 13 rebounds.
Nazareth continues road play with a game at Elmira at 4 p.m. Saturday.
