UTICA, NY – The Nazareth men's volleyball team only dropped one set on Saturday at the SUNY Poly Invitational, defeating Nichols (25-23, 25-18, 18-25, 25-17) and followed that up with a sweep of SUNY Potsdam, (25-18, 25-13, 25-17) to remain undefeated on the season at 6-0
. Junior
Owen Wickens was named the tournament MVP after totaling 68 kills and 31 digs in four matches.
Trent Caviness was also on the All-Tournament team with 84 assists, 24 kills and 10 service aces.
4 set win over Nichols, (25-23, 25-18, 18-25, 25-17)
The most tightly contest set was the first, with Nazareth hitting .393 with 14 kills on 28 attempts with three errors. Nichols was equally as impressive with .375 (14 K, 5 E, 24 TA).
Wickens paced the Golden Flyers attack with 20 kills, a day after registering a career-high 24 against Wentworth.
Caviness had five service aces, nine digs, and 24 assists.
Colin Donahue chipped in six kills on nine attempts and had three blocks.
Seth Terzo led the Golden Flyers with 10 digs.
3 set win over SUNY Potsdam, (25-18, 25-13, 25-17)
The Golden Flyers hit over .400 in all three sets and finished the contest swinging .486 – 46 kills, 74 attempts, 4 errors.
Caviness led the way with nine digs on a .400 attack percentage, to go along with three service aces, and six digs.
Nate Allen was credited with eight kills (.500). Wickens had seven kills, four service aces, eight digs and 24 assists.
Donahue had seven kills on 11 attempts and two blocks.
Nazareth returns to action on Friday at Misericordia, squaring off against Randolph-Macon at 6 p.m.
