Vardar and Pawlika Each Score Twice for Men’s Soccer

ITHACA, NY – The dangerous offensive combination of graduate student Cuneyt Vardar and sophomore Jake Pawlika combined for four goals and one assist to lead the Nazareth Men's Soccer team to a 5-1 victory Sunday at Wells.

Vardar scored his fourth goal of the season eight minutes into the match with an assist from graduate student Sam Smyth for the early Nazareth (2-0-0) lead.

Just 1:11 later, Pawlika scored as fellow sophomore Drew Decker set him up for the goal and a 2-0 Nazareth lead.

Vardar added his second goal of the game with 15 minutes left in the opening half to extend the lead as senior Andrew Vogler and Pawlika each earned assists on the play and the Golden Flyers took the 3-0 lead into the halftime intermission.

In the second half, Wells (0-2-0) trimmed the lead with its olny goal of the game six minutes into the period.

Pawlika added a penalty shot goal seven minutes later and sophomore Dominic Marino scored his second goal of the year to cap the scoring with seven minutes remaining.

Sophomore Logan Menna played the first 79 minutes and junior Patrick Larkin played the final 11 minutes in the Nazareth goal and each finished with one save.

Nazareth continues its schedule with road games Wednesday at SUNY Poly in Utica and at Brockport Saturday night.
