SCRANTON, P.A. – The Nazareth women's volleyball team dropped a pair of matches on Saturday, first to Muhlehnberg, 19-25, 25-21, 25-21, 20-25, 15-13 and then in the afternoon to Lebanon Valley, 22-25, 25-20, 25-17, 25-19.
With the losses, Nazareth drops to 0-3 on the season.
Tessa Grover and
Kaylee Kelly were named to the all-tournament team. Grover averaged 5 assists per set (65 total), had five service aces, and 18 kills. Kelly led the Golden Flyers with 28 kills and also had five service aces for the weekend.
Nazareth returns to action on Friday with an 8 p.m. showdown at St. Lawrence.
Game 1 - 19-25, 25-21, 25-21, 20-25, 15-13
Nazareth started strong in the opening set, hitting .205 – 11 kills and just three errors on 39 attempts. In a closely contested set, Nazareth broke away scoring the last four points to open with a win.
Ella Kules had a service ace to end the set.
After faltering in sets two and three, the Golden Flyers rebounded with their best hitting set at .275 (14 kills, 3 errors, 40 attempts) to send the match to a deciding fifth set.
Nazareth notched four of the first five points in the deciding set but allowed Muhlenberg to string together seven straight points that they could not overcome.
Eva Lyko had a strong game notching a team-high 12 kills on a .360 hitting percentage.
Zoe Tylipakis was also in double-digit kills with 10, while also notching eight digs.
Tessa Grover had a balanced match with nine kills on a .346 hitting percentage and dished out 26 assists.
Jenna Mattison led the way with 19 digs.
Game 2 – 22-25, 25-20, 25-17, 25-19
Just as they did in their opening match of the day, the Golden Flyers started strong to take the first set, 25-22. It was by far their best hitting set at .276 with 10 kills and just two errors on 29 attempts. Nazareth struggled in the next three sets, hitting .061 in both the second and third and .026 in the final set.
Nazareth struggled with serving, with 18 serving errors in the match.
Kaylee Kelly paced Nazareth on nine kills and 15 digs.
Rylie Loomis chipped in six kills of her own, while Grover was credited with 21 assists and seven digs.
