Field Hockey Tripped Up 2-1 by Oberlin in Overtime

OBERLIN, OH – The Nazareth College field hockey squad scored the first goal of the game, but it was not enough, as host Oberlin College won 2-1 on Saturday in a non-conference matchup. Freshman Avery Tanton scored her first career goal off an assist from Bella Rehermann in the second quarter of play.

Nazareth drops to 0-2 on the season, while Oberlin moves to 1-1.

The Golden Flyers dominated the offensive zone from the start, racking up 11 penalty corners in the first two quarters. Nazareth made good on their last penalty corner of the half, as Tanton muscled a shot past the Oberlin goalie with under three minutes remaining. Nazareth's heavy offensive pressure throughout the game resulted in 16 penalty corners to just one for the hosts.

Oberlin was awarded a penalty shot early in the second half which allowed them to even the score at one.

Despite a 14-4 advantage in shots in regulation, the Golden Flyers were unable to come away with the victory.

Nazareth's Caroline Desautels snuck behind the defense 2:36 into the overtime period for a strong opportunity, sailing a shot just wide of the net.

Oberlin's Vanessa Baker was able to jam in a shot in front of the net nearly seven minutes in the overtime period to seal the win.

Madilyn Satter finished with two saves in net.

Nazareth is back in action on Sunday, squaring off against Ohio Wesleyan at 11 a.m.
