ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Longtime Empire 8 rivals Nazareth and Ithaca battled to a 2-2 draw on Saturday afternoon in non-conference action. Nazareth scored the games first two goals, both off headers, but the Bombers scored two goals over the final 24 minutes to earn the tie.
With the tie, Nazareth moves to 1-1-3 overall, while Ithaca is now 3-1-2.
Nazareth opened the scoring in the 16
th minute with a beautiful header from Freshman
Tatum Overton, her first-career goal.
Madison Knowles played a right footed cross diagonally into the box and Overton flicked it into the far corner.
It was 1-0 at halftime.
Mckayla Hughes nearly made it 2-0, with a tough shot that had to be pushed aside by the Ithaca goalkeeper seven minutes into the second half.
Not long after Hughes found the back of net off a cross from
Geena Morotti at 53:26. Morotti's cross deflected off an Ithaca defenders head and Hughes was able to head it past the surging Ithaca goalkeeper.
Ithaca ramped up their pressure and notched two goals in a six-minute span to even the score, beginning at 66:24.
Annika Monfort made crucial save in the 84
th minute, tipping a free kick from outside the box off the crossbar to keep the score 2-2. She made seven saves for the Golden Flyers.
Haley Glassman had a great opportunity for Nazareth in the 87
th minute, ripping a shot that saved that was saved and then went off the crossbar before being cleared away.
The Golden Flyers made one last push with under 10 seconds to play as Overturn had a shot turned aside by the Bombers charging keeper.
Nazareth returns to action on Tuesday, traveling to Geneseo for a 6 p.m. contest.
