Women’s Soccer Falls to Nationally Ranked Misericordia

DALLAS, PA – Undefeated and nationally ranked Misericordia scored a goal in each half and recorded a 2-0 win Sunday. Nazareth dropped its first decision of the season after starting the year without a loss in the first three games.

Misericordia (5-0-0), ranked seventh in the country in the latest United Soccer Coaches national poll, scored in the 15th minute to take the early lead and then extended the lead to 2-0 just under eight minutes into the second half.

The Cougars held a 25-6 advantage in shots and a 10-3 edge in shots on goal but the Nazareth (1-1-2) defense kept a majority of the shots outside the 18-yard box. Sophomore Annika Monfort finished with eight saves.

The Golden Flyers had a good scoring chance in each half as graduate student Sydney Moss fired a shot from just outside the box that went wide of the goal and in the second half, a direct kick from 25 yards out was deflected by junior Olivia Foley and missed the net by less than a foot.

Nazareth returns to action Saturday with a 12 p.m. game against Ithaca in Golden Flyer Stadium.
