BROCKPORT, NY – The Nazareth Men's Soccer team maintained its composure but dropped a chippy defensive 1-0 battle with SUNY Brockport Saturday night on Dr. Linda Arena Field.
The only goal of the game came 5:42 into the game on what turned out to be the only quality scoring opportunity for either team. Both Brockport (1-0-3) and Nazareth (2-2-0) were limited to four shots on goal in the game.
The back-and-forth defensive battle featured 11 cards including eight to Brockport players and coaches and a red card for one player.
Sophomore Logan Menna was credited with three saves in the game.
Graduate student Sam Smyth had a good scoring chance in the first half but his shot sailed just wide of the goal after breaking free at the top of the 18-yard box and a shot across the face of the goal.
A header by graduate student Cuneyt Vardar in the second half ended up wide of the target as well.
Nazareth returns to the road with a trip to Pennsylvania Tuesday and a 4 p.m. game at Pitt-Bradford before returning home Saturday to begin Empire 8 play with a 3 p.m. game against Hartwick at Golden Flyer Stadium.
