BRADFORD, PA – Graduate transfer Cuneyt Vardar scored twice and assisted on another goal as the Nazareth Men's Soccer team rebounded from consecutive losses with a convincing 5-0 win at Pitt-Bradford Tuesday afternoon.
Junior Matt Bamford, who transferred from Monroe Community College, scored in the first half on a penalty shot to give Nazareth (3-2-0) an early lead in the 27th minute.
After halftime, Vardar started his scoring spree as he assisted on a goal by sophomore Drew Decker six minutes into the second half.
Just 10 minutes later Vardar scored the first of two goals in a span of seven minutes on a second penalty kick to extend the Nazareth lead to 4-0 with 22 minutes remaining.
Junior Cooper LaValley capped the scoring his first goal of the season with under 13 minutes remaining.
The Golden Flyers held a 17-10 shots advantage and had an 8-4 edge in shots on goal and a 14-3 lead in corner kicks.
Sophomore Logan Menna made four saves in the Nazareth goal for his first shutout of the season.
Nazareth returns home to open Empire 8 play Saturday with a 3 p.m. game against Hartwick at Golden Flyer Stadium.
