ROCHESTER, NY – The Nazareth College Field Hockey team opened the game strong Thursday at the University of Rochester earning a pair of early penalty corners but the Yellow Jackets rebounded and recorded an 8-0 victory in the season opening game at Fauver Stadium.
Senior Caroline Desautels fired a pair of penalty corners in the opening minutes of the game for Nazareth (0-1) but the Rochester (1-0) defense held strong and pushed the ball into the Nazareth defensive zone where a majority of the play took place for the remainder of the game.
After a scoreless first half, Rochester scored twice in the second quarter to take a slim 2-0 lead into the halftime intermission.
Rochester scored twice in the first five minutes of the third quarter to double the lead and added two more goals before the end of the quarter to take a commanding 6-0 lead.
Two goals in a span of a minute midway through the final period gave the Yellow Jackets the 8-0 lead.
Nazareth freshman goalie Madilyn Satter started the game and played the majority of the first three quarters and recorded 12 saves. Mackenzie Halliday played the final 18 minutes and made seven saves.
Nazareth will head to Ohio for a pair of games over the weekend against Oberlin Saturday and Ohio Wesleyan Sunday.
