ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Visiting Nazareth dominated Alfred Wednesday in an Empire 8 Conference women's lacrosse game as the Golden Flyers opened their conference schedule with a 19-4 win over the Saxons in a game played at Yunevich Field.
In the E8 opener for both teams, Nazareth is 3-6 overall and 1-0 in conference games. Alfred is 2-6 and 0-2.
Junior
Maren Wallace amassed a career-best seven points on three goals and four assists and
Kate Metzler also had a career-best four points on three goals and one assist. Other highlights included the first career goal for freshman
Makenna Misiurewicz and four ground balls, three draw controls and three caused turnovers for junior
Annie Rubel.
Nazareth got off to a good start by scoring the first six goals to take an early lead. Wallace scored once and delivered two assists and
Emma States scored twice as Nazareth led 6-0.
Nazareth scored six more times in the second quarter as the lead swelled to 14-1 before halftime. Six different players scored, including
Reva Mussi, who finished with two goals, and
Emma Robinson, who finished with two goals and two assists.
The third quarter featured goals by Metzler and Robinson and the fourth quarter included the first career goals for freshmen
Julia Dietz and
Grace Seither.
Nazareth had significant advantages in shots (41-11) and ground balls (27-16). Nazareth also won 17 of 27 draw controls with Mussi accounting fo four of those.
Nazareth plays again Saturday at St. John Fisher at 1 p.m.
