Golden Flyers outscored by Brockport, 16-3

Golden Flyers (0-2) visit William Smith Saturday

ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Nazareth's Annie Rubel scored off an assist from Maren Wallace early in the first quarter to tie the score, but it as all Brockport thereafter as the visiting Golden Eagles delivered 10 straight goals on their way to a 16-3 women's lacrosse victory over the Golden Flyers.

Ranked 12th nationally in Division III, Brockport improved to 2-0 following the non-conference win, while Nazareth dropped to 0-2.

In addition to Rubel, Kate Metzler and Caraline Riley scored for the Golden Flyers. Senior goalie Katie Lawrence had seven saves.

Despite the lopsided score, Nazareth had a multitude of scoring chances, most notably seven free-position chances on which the Golden Flyers failed to convert. They were stymied mostly by the hot play of Brockport goalie Morgan Elmer, who was credited with 22 saves, including all seven free-position stops.

Brockport scored the game's first goal at 13:51, but Nazareth tied the score when Rubel finished off a feed from Wallace for her third goal of the season at 10:14. Brockport scored five more goals before the first quarter ended and one more goal in the second to take a 7-1 advantage into halftime. Elmer helped backstop the Golden Eagles' effort with 10 of her saves coming in the second quarter alone with four coming on free-position chances.

The Golden Eagles broke the game open with five more goals in the third quarter. The score reached 11-1 before Metzler scored an unassisted goal for Nazareth with :53 left in the quarter. Riley's goal came midway through the fourth quarter off an assist from Maggie Vay. Nazareth's final stat line included three ground balls and two caused turnovers for Emma Parry and three draw controls for Lauren Caldwell.

Brockport was led offensively by four goals and four assists for Logan Hibbard, four goals from Cassidy Burnash and three goals from Allison Jennings. The Golden Eagles converted all four of their free-position chances.

The Golden Flyers return to action Saturday as they visit seventh-ranked William Smith at 1 p.m.
