ROCHESTER, NY – Junior Ally Watrous tied a school record with four goals and the senior class combined for 11 goals and 13 assists as the Nazareth College Women's Hockey team recorded its highest scoring output and largest margin of victory in school history with a 16-1 win over King's College Saturday afternoon at the Bill Gray's Iceplex.
Watrous tied the school record of four goals in a game set by senior Madison Nichols two years ago when she scored four times in a 6-2 win over Neumann. The 16 goals is the most in school history eclipsing the total of 14 set in a 14-0 win over King's in 2018. The 15-goal margin of victory was also set in that game from the first season in Nazareth Women's Hockey history.
The freshman class in that season finally celebrated the first senior day for women's hockey. Nichols was one of the seniors and finished with two goals and two assists and fellow senior Abbey Luth also contributed a pair of goals and two assists as 11 of the 12 skaters that were seniors recorded a point. Both senior goalies – Adrianna Brehm and Noelle Giroux played and combined for five saves to share the win.
The seniors that had multiple point included Elie Fallieras (1-2), Maria Di Cresce (2-0), Nikolle VanStralen (1-1), Stephanie Kubis (0-2), Cristina Darby (1-1) and Delaney Carle (0-2).
Nazareth (19-1-0 overall, 15-0-0 UCHC), ranked No. 7 in the latest USCHO.com poll, also equaled a school record for wins in a season. The Golden Flyers also won 19 games (19-5-2) in the inaugural season.
Watrous scored a goal in the first period as Nazareth scored seven times including four goals in the first 5:41 of the game. She added two more in the second period as the Golden Flyers added six more goals for a 13-0 lead after two periods. Watrous tied the school record as she redirected a shot by Kubis late in the third period to make the score 16-0. King's (1-19-0, 1-15-0) scored with 23 seconds remaining to avoid the shutout.
The same two teams will wrap up the weekend series with a 3:15 p.m. start Sunday.
