PITTSTON, PA – After falling behind 4-1 after two periods of play, senior Cole Moore scored a goal and added an assist early in the third period to narrow the gap but King's College scored twice late to escape with a 6-3 victory Saturday afternoon in a United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) game.
King's (5-17-0 overall, 4-12-0 UCHC) scored the lone goal in the first period to take the early lead at the 6:54 mark of the period.
Nazareth (7-14-2, 6-9-1 UCHC) knotted the score early in the second period as freshman Ethan Louisos scored seven minutes into the period to make the score 1-1. Fellow freshman Ryan Turse was credited with an assist on the play.
King's answered less than three minutes later with a power play goal to regain the lead and then added to the lead with a pair of even strength goals at the 13:37 mark and at the 17:05 mark in the stanza to take a 4-1 edge.
Turse scored 43 seconds into the third period on a pass from Moore to cut the lead in half and then Moore brought the Golden Flyers to within a goal two minutes later as Nazareth trailed 4-3 with less than three minutes elapsed in the final period.
A King's goal with 5:30 left extended the lead back to two goals and then a late tally with 2:32 left closed out the scoring.
Nazareth held a slim 32-28 edge in shots and won 46 of the 75 face-offs in the game.
Nazareth will close out the regular season with a pair of home games against Neumann (4 p.m. Saturday) and Manhattanville (1 p.m. Sunday) and still have a chance to move into a top four position in the UCHC standings to earn a home game in the first round of the UCHC Tournament.
