Women's Hoops Opens E8 Play with 65-54 Win over Elmira

Jadyn Abrams set the program record for 3-pointers with 191.

ROCHESTER, NY – Senior Jadyn Abrams set the Nazareth 3-point record on Friday night as the Golden Flyers opened Empire 8 play with a 65-54 over Elmira at Kidera Gymnasium. Abrams had a game-high 19 points on 5-for-14 from the field and dishing out four assists.
 
Nazareth gets to .500 on the season at 3-3 with the win and are now 1-0 in Empire 8 play. The Soaring Eagles are 4-1 and 0-1, respectively.
 
Near the midway point of the first quarter, Abrams connected on the record-breaking 3-pointer from the corner, giving her 189 for her career. She finished the game with three triples to push her career total to 191. The graduate student came into the contest tied with Sam Sorge '16 at 188.
 
Nazareth led 16-13 after the first quarter despite shooting just 22.2 percent from the field.
 
The Golden Flyers were able to gain some breathing room in the second with an 8-0 run over a 1:18 span which pushed their lead to 26-15 over three minutes into the second.
 
Nazareth also shot better from the field in the second quarter at 47.1 percent (8-for-17), taking a 32-24 into the break.
 
The Golden Flyers broke open the fourth quarter with four-straight possessions of drilling from distance. Kiara Anglin started the barrage near the midway point to give Nazareth a double-digit lead at 51-41. The lead remained double-dights the rest of the way. Sarah Simmons followed that up with a 3-pointer of her own and Abrams connected on back-to-back trips to make it 60-44 at the 3:31 mark. Simmons finished the game with seven points and three assists.
 
Chelsea Woodsum scored a season-high 11 points on 5-for-9 from the field. Kim Davis nearly had a double-double, notching nine points and 12 rebounds.
 
Anglin produced eight points, six rebounds, and four steals.
 
Nazareth returns to Kidera Gymnasium on Saturday, hosting Alfred University at 2 p.m.
