POUGHKEEPSIE, NY – Graduate student Jadyn Abrams led Nazareth with 18 points and freshman Brielle Reidinger added 12 points and a team leading nine rebounds for the Nazareth Women's Basketball team but and early 10-point lead slipped away as Vassar won a 76-62 decision Friday night in the Hochberg Family Tip-off Tournament.
Graduate student Kim Davis scored four of her nine points in the opening 10 minutes with back-to-back baskets as Nazareth (0-1) built a 12-2 lead in the first quarter.
Vassar (1-1) bounced back in the second quarter and scored 28 points to take a 30-27 lead into the break.
The Brewers used six 3-pointers in the third quarter to stretch the lead to 11 points to 55-43.
Nazareth battled in the fourth quarter but could not put a dent in the lead as Vassar continued to shoot well from beyond the 3-point arc to maintain its lead.
Vassar finished the game hitting 15-of-35 long range shots after going 0-for-9 in the opening 10 minutes.
Davis and fellow graduate student Caley Cornwell scored nine points each and freshman Katie MacLachlan added six points and was tied for the team lead with nine rebounds.
Nazareth will face Swarthmore at 2 p.m. Saturday in the consolation game as the Garnet dropped a 62-57 decision to Hamilton.
