ROCHESTER, NY – Senior Caroline Desautels scored a career high four goals and had one assist, senior Grace Wasileski added two goals and an assist and senior Bailey Selman chipped in an assist as the Nazareth Field Hockey team kept its playoff chances alive with a 12-0 win over Elmira in an Empire 8 match up Saturday afternoon.
Desautels assisted on the first goal of the game just three minutes into the contest as she sent a pass in to junior Grace Wilt as Nazareth (4-13 overall, 4-4 Empire 8) took an early lead.
Desautels scored three minutes later to double the lead as she finished a play started by freshman Audra Misczkowski.
In the second quarter, freshman Avery Tanton scored on a penalty corner and Mieczkowski scored her second in a span of 1:04 to extend the lead to 4-0.
Desautels scored after time had expired on a penalty corner to give the Golden Flyers a 5-0 lead as the teams headed into the halftime intermission.
Mieczkowski added her third goal of the game seven minutes into the second half and Wasileski scored 1:30 later to make it a 7-0 Nazareth lead.
In the final period, Wilt and Wasileski scored goals in a span of 1:26 as the lead grew to 9-0 with just under 10 minutes to play.
Desautels added two more goals in the final five minutes and sophomore Hannah Janes added a goal as Nazareth capped the game with the three goals in the final five minutes for the 12-0 win.
Nazareth moved into sixth place in the conference standings with a lone game at Keuka next weekend. The Golden Flyers will face Ithaca on the road Wednesday in non-conference action before the Keuka game to end the regular season.
