Larkin Earns Shutout in First-Career Start; Naz Blanks Fredonia 5-0

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Cuneyt Vardar and Jake Pawlika each scored twice in the second half and Sam Smyth tallied a goal in the first to propel the Golden Flyers 5-0 over Fredonia on Tuesday in non-conference action. Junior goalie Patrick Larkin made five saves in his first-career start to earn the shutout.

The Golden Flyers move to 7-3-2 overall on the season, while the Blue Devils drop to 2-8-3.

Nazareth's lone goal in the opening half came from Smyth in the 24th minute as he picked up his fifth goal of the season. The graduate student stole the ball away in the Fredonia final third, took a few dribbles, and bent a right footed shot from 22 feet inside the far post.

Graduate student sensation Vardar scored a highlight reel goal just over five minutes into the second half. Coming off a counterattack, Vardar turned on the jets to be the first to the loose ball at midfield and then beat everyone the rest of the way to make it 2-0.

Less than four minutes later, Vardar scored his 15th goal of the season as Pawlika thread a pass through the defense which the graduate student converted. Vardar remains among the leaders in the nation for goals in Division III.

Nazareth's attack connected again in the 66th minute with Drew Decker playing a ball in from the left flank that Pawlika was able to tap in from just outside the 6-yard box.

Pawlika notched the final goal of the game in the 81st minute, finessing a shot overtop the keeper and into the top right corner from 30-yards out.

Nazareth finished the game with a 22-8 advantage in shots.

The Golden Flyers will host their second of a three-game homestand on Saturday, taking on Medaille University (7-0-5 overall, 2-0-2 E8) at 12 p.m.
