Late Goals Down Nazareth in Non-Conference Battle with Oswego

ROCHESTER, NY – After three scoreless quarters, SUNY Oswego scored three times in the fourth quarter to take a 3-1 non-conference win over the Nazareth Field Hockey team Tuesday afternoon on the Artificial Turf Field.

Nazareth (2-12) was outshot 14-6 in the first three quarters but played tough defense and kept the game in a scoreless tie until the final quarter.

Oswego (7-6) broke the tie 1:19 into the period with a goal off a penalty corner to take the 1-0 lead.

Five minutes later, the Lakers were awarded a penalty shot and converted to expend the lead to 2-0.

Just 25 seconds after the restart at midfield, senior Grace Wasileski sent a ball toward the Laker goal and sophomore Hannah Janes redirected the ball into the back of the goal to cut the lead in half.

Three minutes later, Oswego regained the two-goal lead on a tip in goal as the Lakers took the 3-1 lead with five minutes remaining.

Nazareth had a couple late chances as shots by freshman Avery Tanton and Wasileski were blocked.

Freshmen goalies Madilyn Satter and Mackenzie Halliday each played a half and combined for 11 saves.

Nazareth returns to Empire 8 play at 1 p.m. Saturday as the Golden Flyers host Utica University.
