ROCHESTER, N.Y. – After a 10-day respite, Nazareth returned to the home court hardwood Friday against Alfred and the Golden Flyers won for the fifth straight time in women's basketball to remain in a tie for first place in the Empire 8 Conference standings. Nazareth won 74-57.
The Golden Flyers improved to 11-5 overall and 6-1 in conference play while Alfred dropped to 7-10 and 2-6. Nazareth vists St. John Fisher Saturday in a battle for first place in the Empire 8.
Playing for the first time since Jan. 18, the Golden Flyers got a strong game from senior
Kim Davis, who led all scorers with 17 points and equaled a career high with 19 rebounds.
Miyah Sizer added 16 points and
Jadyn Abrams had 11.
The game was close through the first 10 minutes as Nazareth led 16-12. Then the golden Flyers went 11-for-19 from the field in the second quarter to stretch the lead to 42-23 by halftime. Nazareth also connected four times from three-point range with Sizer, Davis,
Caley Cornwell and
Sabrina Wolfe each connecting from long distance.
Nazareth was never seriously threatened in the second half as the Golden Flyers took a 52-34 lead into the final 10 minutes.
Davis' 17 points included 7-for-13 shooting from the field with two three-pointers Sizer had two three-pointers and seven assists. Sophomore
Chelsea Woodsum came off the bench to contribute eight points and four rebounds.
Nazareth went 29-for-68 (42.6%) from the field overall with nine three-pointers from six different shooters.
