Hockey Rallies for Tie but Falls in Shootout

RYE, NY – Senior Cole Moore scored twice and assisted on a third goal as the Nazareth College Men's Hockey team came back from a 3-0 deficit to tie Manhattanville 3-3 Sunday afternoon at the Playland Ice Casino. After a scoreless overtime period, the Valiants won a 2-1 decision in the shootout.

Manhattanville (7-5-2 overall, 4-3-2 UCHC) scored a pair of goals in the first two minutes of the game including the first just 16 seconds after the opening face-off for the early lead.

The Valiants extended the lead to 3-0 seven minutes into the second period.

Nazareth (5-9-2, 4-4-1 UCHC) started the comeback rally with 6:39 left in the second period when Moore fired a shot from the point that found its way through the traffic in front of the goal and beat the Manhattanville goalie to trim the lead to 3-1.

Less than four minutes later Moore fed a pass across the blue line to junior Nick Charron who rifled a shot to the goal that sophomore Johnny Jackson tipped past the goalie to further cut into the lead.

Early in the third period it was Moore again from the blue line as he sent a shot toward the goal that went between the goalie's legs to tie the score at 3-3.

Neither team scored down the stretch and the Golden Flyers dominated the 3-on-3 overtime period with a solid 7-1 shots advantage. Moore had one of the best scoring chances in the overtime period as he skated in and took a centering pass from Charron but his quick shot from the slot was saved.

Charron scored the lone Nazareth goal in the shootout and Manhattanville scored a pair for the win.

The Golden Flyers play two more UCHC road games next weekend with a trip to Arcadia (Friday) and Lebanon Valley (Saturday).
