REISTERTOWN, Md. – Yet another dominant start-to-finish performance enabled Nazareth to remain unbeaten in women's hockey Wednesday as the Golden Flyers blanked host Stevenson, 6-0, in a United Collegiate Hockey Conference game at the Reistertown Sportsplex.
The Golden Flyers, ranked seventh nationally by USCHO.com, defeated the Mustangs for the second day in a row to improve to 14-0-0 overall and 10-0-0 in the UCHC. Stevenson slipped to 5-7-0 and 4-4-0. Nazareth defeated Stevenson, 2-1, on Tuesday. The Golden Flyers have outscored the opposition by a 79-6 margin.
Ally Watrous had two goals for the Golden Flyers to extend her team-leading total to 10.
Abbey Luth had assists on the first three goals and
Nikolle Van Stralen had a goal and an assist.
Nazareth was stymied somewhat in the opening period and spent much of the time killing penalties, including a 5-on-3 opportunity for the Mustangs that resulted from minor infractions to
Elie Fallieras and
Hailey Redders. Before that, Nazareth got on the scoreboard at 9:39 as
Makenna Wiljanen scored for the seventh time this season as she redirected her own rebound past Stevenson's Olivia DeGuire with Luth gaining an assist.
Keeley Rose made the score 2-0 at 12:00 as she one-timed a shot into the goal after Luth won the face-off.
The second period featured the fourth goal of the season for Van Stralen, who finished off a pass from Luth, who gained her sixth assist.
Delaney Carle also assisted.
Nazareth had a 23-4 shots-on-goal advantage in the second and third periods and tacked on three more goals in the final 20 minutes.
At 1:06 of the third, Watrous scored unassisted as she stole the puck along the right-wing boards and fired a shot past DeGuire for a 4-0 Nazareth advantage.
Goals for
Maria Di Cresce and Watrous followed. Di Cresce finished off a pass from
Maggie Pfalzgraf at 5:59 and Watrous rifled a shot from the blue line at 17:05 for her third goal of the two-game series.
Nazareth had a 36-13 shooting advantage and goaltender
McKinley Hoff won fifth game of the season and fourth by shutout by recording 13 saves.
The Golden Flyers are back home for a pair of conference games this weekend. They host Arcadia Friday at 7 p.m. and Saturday at 2.
