ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Nazareth scored once in each half Wednesday and held on for a 2-0 non-conference men's soccer victory over SUNY Poly on the Golden Flyers' artificial turf field.
Nazareth secured its second victory of the 2021 season to improve to 2-1-1 overall. The Wildcats dropped to 1-1.
The game was evenly played with each team generating nine shots. Nazareth took advantage of its opportunities, particularly with exactly four minutes remaining in the first half when
Drew Decker was dragged down in the Wildcats' penalty area.
Dan Serpe took the resulting penalty kick and drilled it into the goal for a 1-0 Nazareth advantage.
The second half was also evenly played with Decker again playing a part in Nazareth's second goal. His service from the left wing landed on the right foot of fellow freshman
Dominic Marino, who one-touched the ball past Wildcats' keeper James D'Alessio for his second goal in as many games.
Freshman
Logan Menna went the 90-minute distance in goal and made three saves for his second shutout of the season.
Nazareth returns to action Saturday for another non-conference game at 12 p.m. vs. Pitt-Bradford at Golden Flyer Stadium.
