BROCKPORT, NY – The defense for the Nazareth College Men's Soccer team led by freshman goalkeeper Logan Menna played well all day and especially well in the second overtime period as the Golden Flyers and SUNY Brockport played to a scoreless draw Saturday in the Doug May Memorial event.
Menna finished with eight saves and made two big saves in a flurry midway through the second overtime to preserve the tie.
With 5:03 left, Brockport (0-1-1) set up for a corner kick and the Nazareth (1-0-1) defense cleared the ball out of the box but a quick shot from the Golden Eagles had to be punched away by Menna.
The result was a second corner for Brockport and after a diving header by a Golden Eagles player sailed wide to send the ball back the other way.
With less than a minute remaining, Menna came up big again as he came off his line and challenged a breakaway attempt and made the save to stop the threat.
Nazareth will face RIT at 7 p.m. Sunday night in the second game of the Doug May Tournament at RIT. RIT and Mt. Aloysius played to a 2-2 tie Saturday at RIT.
