ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Visiting Geneseo won five of the six singles matches Wednesday and went on to take a 7-2 non-conference women's tennis victory over the Golden Flyers at Annette Shapiro Courts.
The match marked the season opener for both teams. The Golden Flyers resume play this weekend at the Mary Hosking Invitational hosted by William Smith.
Sophomore
Aliya Guzman helped account for both Nazareth points as she won matches at singles and doubles. At first singles she downed Geneseo's Natalia Krol in straight sets 6-3, 6-1. In doubles, she teamed with freshman
Claire Pullen to take down Geneseo's first tandem of Alex Galle and Rory Tobin 8-6.
Nazareth also dropped close matches at third and sixth singles. At third singles, senior
Lauren Carr dropped a first-set tiebreaker and then dropped the second set to Geneseo's Julianna Schulz. At sixth singles, sophomore
Katelyn Spath won the first set 6-3 over Geneseo's Abby Rockford, then lost the second set 6-2 and then the tiebreaker 10-8.
