Box Score 2 KEUKA, NY – Sophomore Emily Daciw struck out 13 batters and freshman Marissa Berghorn had three hits to lead the Nazareth College Softball team to a 7-1 win in the second game of the Empire 8 doubleheader at Keuka College Saturday as the Golden Flyers ended the regular season with a victory.
Keuka (8-12 overall, 8-12 E8) won the opener 4-2 with a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to break a 2-2 tie.
Nazareth (4-18, 4-16) opened the first game with a pair of runs in the second inning as junior Sarah Simmons singled and later stole home in the back half of a double steal. Sophomore Leah Simon scored later on a single by freshman Cassidy Hoffmier for the 2-0 Nazareth lead.
Keuka tied the score in the bottom half of the inning with a sacrifice fly and a run scoring ground out.
The score remained tied until the seventh inning with the Wolves rallied for the win with a two-run double with one out in the final inning.
Simmons and Hoffmier each had two hits for Nazareth.
In game two, Nazareth started the scoring with a pair of runs in the top of the first inning.
Junior Jessica Klem and Berghorn each had run-scoring singles with the bases loaded to give the Golden Flyers the early 2-0 lead.
Nazareth stretched the lead to 5-0 with three runs in the third with the help of two hits, two errors and a walk.
Keuka got on the board in the fourth with its only run of the game
The Golden Flyers finished the game with two more runs in the seventh inning as Nazareth had four consecutive hits including a double by Simmons.
The seven runs were more than enough as Daciw was in control from the circle. Her 13 strikeouts is a career high and the most by a Nazareth pitcher since the first game of 2017 when Nicole White fanned 15 batters in a win over Centenary in Naples, Florida.
Berghorn was 3-for-4 in the game while Simmons, Klem and freshman
Emma Garvey collected two hits each.
