ROCHESTER, NY – Senior Janelle Walters had three hits including two in the second game but it was not enough as the Nazareth College Softball team dropped both ends of an Empire 8 doubleheader to St. John Fisher Tuesday afternoon on Flyer Field.
St. John Fisher (22-2 overall, 17-1 Empire 8) won the opener 10-0 in five innings and then took the nightcap by a 6-0 score.
Nazareth (3-17, 3-15 E8) had a total of three hits in each game with half of them coming off the bat of Walters. Juniors Sarah Simmons and Maddie Funk as well as sophomore Lily Sullivan each added a hit for the Golden Flyers.
The Cardinals scored a run in the first on a leadoff home run and then took a 3-0 lead in the third. St. John Fisher opened up the lead in the fourth with four runs on five hits and an error. The final three runs came in the fifth off two hits, a walk and an error.
In game two, Fisher scored four times in the first inning to take the early lead and then finished the scoring in the sixth with two more runs.
Sophomore starting pitcher Emily Daciw allowed six runs – one earned – on six hits with three strike outs and had three 1-2-3 innings including the third when she tossed just four pitches.
Nazareth will play its final home games Thursday with a non-conference doubleheader against RIT and finish the regular season Saturday at Keuka.
