PITTSFORD, N.Y. -- Host St. John Fisher outscored Nazareth 15-10 in the fifth and decisive set Friday as the Cardinals completed a rally to remain unbeaten in women's volleyball by defeating the Golden Flyers. Scores were 21-25, 21-25, 25-18, 25-23, 15-10.
Fisher improved to 6-0 overall and 4-0 in the Empire 8. Nazareth is 1-2 and 1-2. Sophomore
Kaylee Kelly had 14 kills for the Golden Flyers and freshman
Kelly Taylor amassed 31 assists.
Nazareth had a two-sets-to-none lead and was up 18-14 in the fourth set before Fisher rallied. The Cardinals scored four straight points following a timeout to tie the fourth set and got the last three points of the set on kills from their All-American outside hitter Alea Steigerwald, who had a match-best 19 kills.
Fisher never trailed in the fifth set in surging to an 8-4 advantage and winning convincingly.Â
Kelly had five kills in the first set and three more in the second as Nazareth built a commanding lead.
McKenzie Hart added four of her eight kills in the first set and had back-to-back kills late in the second set as the Golden Flyers steadily pulled away.
Hart also finished with four service aces and 15 digs and sophomore
Kelsey Ludwig added 19 digs and three aces.
Nazareth is idle until April 10 when the Golden Flyers visit Utica for an Empire 8 match.
