ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Nazareth's women's and men's swimming and diving teams were in action Friday evening against visiting Roberts Wesleyan. In the women's meet, the Golden Flyers downed the Redhawks 144-54, while the men's team defeated Roberts 78-54.
Nazareth's women's team improves to 2-0 on the season with the victory. The men's team evens its record at 1-1 with its victory. Both of the Redhawks' teams open the season 0-1 after their respective losses.
In the women's meet, the Golden Flyers won 13 events, led by freshman
Sydney Federico who was first in the 400-meter freestyle (4:55.07) and second in the 200-meter freestyle (2:21.47). Teammate
Paige Pasquarella took first in the 200 event (2:18.99) and freshman
Julie Filipski was second in the 400 freestyle (4:55.23).
Nazareth claimed the top three spots in the 400-meter IM, 100-meter butterfly, and 100-meter backstroke. In the 400 IM, freshman
Grace Cioffi placed first with a time of 5:31.65, followed by junior
Amanda Foster (5:38.06), and senior
Gabrielle Shuron (5:57.77). In the butterfly, senior
Taylor Robey touched the wall first (1:09.23), followed by Pasquarella (1:10.92), and sophomore
Brianna Wind (1:17.86). Senior
Kaela Santos won the backstroke with a time of 1:10.14. She was followed by junior
Caroline Martin (1:12.84), and sophomore
Alyzah Ziga (1:15.86).
The Golden Flyers took the top two spots in three additional events to continue their dominance. Sophomore
Abigail Santos won the 50-meter freestyle with a time of :28.12, classmate
Darby McNamara took first in the 100-meter freestyle, and junior
Amanda Foster was first in the 100-meter breaststroke (1:24.20). Junior
Mary Chisholm placed third in the 50-meter freestyle (:29.50) and second in the 100-meter breaststroke events (1:25.84), while freshman
Ashleigh Parsons was second in the 100-meter freestyle. Junior
Audrey Quinn took first in the 800-meter freestyle with a time 10:54.33.

In the men's meet, the 200-meter medley relay team of senior

Trevor Coleman, junior
Marco Salvatore, and sophomore
Colin Harrington finished first with a time of 2:04.48.
Coleman added a pair of individual victories with wins in the 200-meter freestyle (2:12.11) and 400-meter freestyle (4:48.31). Sophomore
Justin O'Brien won the 100-meter backstroke with a time of 1:16.20, and Salvatore took first in the 400-meter IM with a time of 4:52.48. Harrington was second in the 50-meter freestyle (:27.11) and 100-meter freestyle (1:02.49) events.
Nazareth's men's team is in action again on Saturday when the Golden Flyers travel to Clarkson. The women's team hosts Clarkson on Friday, March 12th.
