Ashley Plane scored a pair of goals and
Madison Knowles had the other for visiting Nazareth Tuesday as the Golden Flyers remained unbeaten in women's soccer with a 3-2 victory over St. John Fisher at Growney Stadium.
The win was the sixth in a row for the Golden Flyers to start their non-traditional season as they clinched the top seed and hosting privileges for next month's Empire 8 Conference Tournament. Nazareth has two regular-season games left -- a non-conference game against RIT April 7 and an E8 contest vs. Alfred April 10. Both games are at home.
To win the game Tuesday, the Golden Flyers overcame a 1-0 deficit as Plane was able to tie the score in the 17th minute, less than three minutes after Fisher's goal. The play originated off a corner kick from
Lena D'Amico, who assisted.
Plane untied it in the 62nd minute as she broke free along the right wing after receiving a pass from
Caleigh Cahoon and slipped a shot underneath the Cardinals' keeper.
Nazareth added an insurance goal later in the second half as Knowles scored for the second time this season as she finished off a perfect crossing pass from
Mia Longo, who gained credit for the assist.
Fisher added its second goal in the 75th minute following a scramble in front of Nazareth goalie
Gabrielle Pighetti, who played all 90 minutes and made one save.
Nazareth had advantages in shots (19-4) and corner kicks (9-2).
